    The system evaluates projects based on eight key criteria: governance, social well-being, economy, resources, land use, ecology, energy, and transport.

    The BREEAM Communities Process: 3 Key Steps

    Step 1 – Establishing the Vision

    At this foundational stage, developers and planners define the project’s sustainability vision and objectives, incorporating environmental, social, and economic elements the outset.

    Upon completion, an Interim Certificate may be awarded to recognize core compliance with BREEAM standards.

    Step 2 – Determining the Layout

    This phase focuses on master planning, including functional zoning, transportation systems, utilities, and infrastructure solutions.

    Step 3 – Designing the Details

    Detailed designs are finalized, and supporting documentation is submitted for assessment. The outcome determines the Final Certificate level, officially issued by BRE Global.

    BREEAM Certification Levels:

    • Pass: ≥ 30%

    • Good: ≥ 45%

    • Very Good: ≥ 55%

    • Excellent: ≥ 70%

    • Outstanding: ≥ 85%
